Hello. You don't know me, but I found your "UNBoard" while doing a Google search for the oak tree reference in Atlas Shrugged. I read what you wrote, and wanted to reply.

To me, the Oak Tree isn't a symbol of a candy shell propping up something ugly and evil. It's a symbol of America.

Read it again and think of America as the Oak tree: strong and rooted. But then something happened (the lightning) and now America is a shell of its former self.

Really random, I know, but your lucky to have a book club you can talk about these things with;
