I tried to make it more interesting for my kids by helping them build a pinhole camera and doing a little history of the Daguerreotype. They really got into it at home. Of course when we got to the Galleries the nice lady asked "Has anyone done any research on civil war photos and pinhole cameras?" and both of my kids are like "uh duhhhhhhhhh" and had a little drool coming out of the corners of their mouthes.
I'm trying so hard to help them be smart,, really I am.
So I couldn't take pictures there. It's understandable. But I could take pictures in the conservatory.

I remember when I was a little kid my parents took me to Civil War battlefields often. I didn't fully appreciate the visits until I got into my late teens, but I always remembered them. I say keep it up. If they're like me, they'll learn to love it!
Have you introduced them to Civil War stereoviews? I wasn't aware of stereoviews (3D photos in the 1860s!) until later but I think I would have really got a kick out of them when I was a kid.
P.S. I love the song "Life's Been Good". Excellent choice of blog tune.
We are so lucky to have the museum here, and I support it (even helping with their annual ball fundraiser), but I often think that their exhibits could be done a little better. I have yet to be to one that knocked my socks off. By the way, did you know that Tuesdays (I think it's Tuesdays) are free? I know they're hope late on Tuesdays.
