Homeschool Day at the Capital

Today was Homeschool Day at the Capital of WV. I often think it's a great idea when I find out about field trips and then when it's actually time to go.... I start dreading it. This time was no exception but I'm so glad I went! I've lived in WV most of my life. We came back to WV from Germany when I was tiny. I'm ashamed to say that I have never been to the capital! Oh I've been to Charleston a zillion times but never inside our state's capital building. There are no words for how beautiful this building is. It's truly breathtaking. I don't think a single surface wasn't made of marble. It was hard to get good pictures in there because there weren't many lights so you'll just have to trust me!
Here's a few:

In the center of the building is a spectacular rotunda. This is where we sat and listened as our district representatives assured us of their support. This is also where our band played. Tim our band director does such a great job with the kids and they all just love him. The band sounded great today. They have come a long way this year!

There were lots of wonderful presentations by home school children from all over the state. An African Drum group, poetry readings, fiddle, violin, karate, and harmonica to name a few. I was very impressed! Reda's daughter played a beautiful violin piece. Keep your eyes peeled for the Redding Brothers, they are AWESOME and they are gonna be HUGE!

Tristen quickly found a picture of himself on the ACCHE display board. He's like that, obsessed with looking at himself that is.

The band also had a display set up. It looked so sparkly and eye catching and that was important because again, it was kinda like a dungeon in there.

After all of that we got to go into the legislative room. That was really cool! We're all beat now and we're going back tomorrow.
Yeah, I hear what you're thinking, MORE PICTURES!
A picture is worth a thousand words right? Eloquence is not my strong suit so you get visuals! OH YEAH,, a resolution was passed today that March 6th is Homeschool Day in the state of West Virginia,,, whaaaaahoooo!

Cool! That is a gorgeous building, isn't it? Can't say as I'm as impressed with what they DO there, usually, but they do have a beautiful building to run amok in! ;)

We'll have to go next year - and I really mean that this time. If we go will you go again? Hold my hand and tell me the crowds won't eat me?
